Cosmetic Procedures: What First Timers Need to Know Now

Society has always focused on appearance, and it makes sense because it’s the first thing we see, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so it’s not fair to criticise others and yourself for how you might look. For example, trends in what’s attractive change so frequently that it can be overwhelming to keep up with. Therefore, if you are considering getting cosmetic procedures for someone else, I would recommend against it.

As a woman in 2025, I have changed things on my face that I wanted to, and I have been lucky to be content with my appearance for the most part. So when it comes to potentially dabbling with cosmetic procedures, it needs to be something that you have thought about for some time, but also took the necessary steps to ensure that I was going to be happy with my choices and results for years to come.

From a previous one to a new one, I have come up with a few tips that helped me make the right decisions when it comes to my cosmetic procedures.

Research

I would recommend that you move beyond the Instagram pages and ask where your friend got hers done and crack on with your own research. You want to know that your cosmetic surgeon in Manchester is reputable, experienced, and qualified with all of the right certifications.

These are the bare minimum requirements you should be getting when choosing your practitioner, and for good reason. If there are any moments to try and find cheaper, it shouldn’t be with cosmetic surgeons. It’s your face and body, so make sure you are choosing the right pair of hands for better results.

Realistic Expectations

Everyone’s face and body are different, so what might take someone a minimal treatment might take another set of skills and time to achieve, so it’s best to go in with an ideal scenario, but ensure that you are grounded because we can’t always get what we want.

For example, I want plump lips, but because my top lip is a lot thinner, there is less lip to inject into. This meant that gradually adding filler over time would allow me to grow the perfect-sized lips without any migration. While I was gutted about the time frame, that was just the way the cookie crumbled, and I just had to be patient.

Financial Considerations

As mentioned before, you shouldn’t be looking for cheaper options, and going to someone highly skilled and amazing at their job might come with a larger price tag. While it might hurt to spend that money, it lasts a very long time, and you shouldn’t skip on quality when it comes to your face and body.

I have seen a lot of practitioners incorporate payment plans with their clients, so this is also worth considering. Stretching out the payment over a long period of time means you don’t have to skip on quality and guarantee that you are going to be content.

Can’t Go Back

For some surgeries, you can’t reverse it unless it’s an implant. With cosmetic procedures, they are meant to last for a long time and usually involve the removal of something that you didn’t once disliked. A good example of this would be the BBL; a lot of influencers have spoken about how, 5 years later, they regret their decision and wish they had never put themselves and their body through so much. There is a procedure that can be done to significantly reduce the size of your BBL through weight loss, but can also be achieved with the removal of fat cells. However, it cannot be reversed to look exactly as it did before the surgery.

These are key considerations, while a lot of people are extremely happy, such as those with a rhinoplasty, who wouldn’t go back. However, another key consideration is those with botched surgeries. It’s very hard to fix but also achieve the results you originally wanted. A good example would be those who have had multiple rhinoplasties; in some cases, this can cause the nose to sink within the face, which is very difficult and expensive to correct, but can still leave you with the ability to breathe through your nose.

It Can Be Addicting

Leading on from the last point of people getting multiple surgeries on the same area to achieve some unattainable standard of ‘beauty’, cosmetic surgery can be as addictive as cups of coffee in the morning. It can leave you continuously unsatisfied with your appearance and always looking for the next thing you can get done. I would tread carefully within the cosmetic and plastic surgery world and only get things that you have wanted for years, and are something that you are doing for yourself and not for the approval of others.
